New vs. Used Cars: Which One Is Better?

There comes a time in everyone’s life when it’s time to purchase a car.  Maybe it’s your first car ever, perhaps it’s time to switch out your outdated car, or you may even want to add a beautiful new car to your collection.  Whatever the reason, it’s an exciting time, but you have to take the time to carefully select which type of car you want.  Aside from the make and model, you also have to ask yourself, is it better to buy a new or used car?

Buying a brand new car is a very rewarding feeling; it’s great to know that you’re the only person that’s ever been behind the wheel.  This means that you don’t have to worry about any hidden damage from the previous owner.  As a result, you can expect low maintenance, as there shouldn’t be any mechanical issues with your new car.  If there are, then you’ll surely be covered by your warranty protection.

Another advantage is that new cars are constantly updating their technology so that they offer the newest safety and entertainment technologies.  This isn’t to say that used cars can’t have updated systems, because they definitely can, but it’s something to keep in mind.

As with most great things in life, there comes a downside.  One of the main disadvantages is, of course, the price.  Not only are they significantly more expensive, but their depreciation in value is also something to consider.  The moment a car is driven off the lot, the value of it significantly drops.  This means that even if you only own the new car for 6 months, you shouldn’t expect to sell it at the same price that you bought it for.  Also, many new cars require higher insurance costs, which should be calculated into your overall budget.

Although the price is the downside of new cars, it’s the advantage of used cars.  Since the first owner already paid for the majority of the depreciation, you can still buy a great car for an even better price (without worrying about it depreciating the moment you drive it).  It’s also generally cheaper to insure, making it even more affordable.  When used cars are well taken care of, they truly are the best bang for their buck.

There are some disadvantages to buying a used car, but they don’t necessarily apply to all cars.  This is because there will always be cars for sale that were not treated well by their last owner, which is why you should be cautious of which car you purchase.  For instance, if you purchase a car from a random person online, you don’t have any guarantee that it’s in good condition.  To prevent being stuck in this situation, you should work with a reliable and experienced used car dealership.

So, Should You Buy a New or Used Car?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, as everyone has a different opinion.  That said, buying a used car seems to be the right choice to get the best deal for your money.  For instance, if you have your eye set on a specific make and model but it’s way out of your budget, you may be able to afford it after the previous owner assumes the depreciation costs.

What’s important is that you buy a car that you can trust.  At Lux Auto Centre, we’re aware of the horrible tactics that some car dealerships and private sellers use.  That’s why our goal is to offer high-quality used cars, and great service as well.  Before selling our vehicles, we guarantee that they’re in top condition so that buyers don’t have to worry about any surprises later on.

We also make our car buying process straightforward and easy.  Not only do we have a great selection of used cars, but we’ll help you find the one that fulfills your requirements.  To give you even more confidence in our vehicles, we encourage you to schedule a test drive and see the quality of our cars up close.
