The reason being is that their business expenses are usually higher in order to maintain a new car inventory. As a result of higher internal expenses, the price of your used car could increase, therefore defeating the purpose of buying a previously owned car.

There are many ways you can find people selling their used car; all you have to do is ask around, see cars drive by with a “for sale” sign, or even check Facebook. This is very appealing to some people, as they feel happy to do business with a person, rather than giving a big car dealership their money. In addition, private sellers may sell their car for a lower price, as they don’t have the same expenses as a big car dealership.

That being said, this option is pretty risky. When you buy from a private party, you have to be very careful about the condition of the car that you’re buying. If you purchase a car and two days later you notice something wrong with it, you usually have nothing to protect you; you’re responsible for those extra expenses. If the seller happens to offer you some kind of guarantee, make sure to include it in your purchase agreement, although this rarely happens.
